Company profile: Desperado Ranch is a small riding / trekking ranch with a desire to provide informal, relaxed riding for enthusiasts of all abilities. Our aim is to give riders a taste of the cradle of horse history & to show riders the true joy of visiting Turkey. Riding the paths and trails in an area that has seen countless generations of people live, work and play. A place that has seen civilisations grow and die and horse caravans transport the riches of the east to the markets of the west.
Accreditation: Affiliated to the Bagana Horse Club ranch of the Turkish Riding Federation
Destination Profile: Desperado Ranch is in SW Turkey, in the village of Yaniklar, nr Fethiye. The region is best known for its resorts such as Olu Deniz, Gocek, and further away Marmaris. Historic Roman and Lycian and Ottoman sites abound in the region. Nature provides mountain backdrops, pine forests, beaches with blues sea and skys, Wild life from lizards, through buzzards to wild boar are in evidence. Whilst all around village life is in abundance,we see men drinking tea and playing Backgammon or Okey, a goat being led home by a village woman or her child. It is through and around this patchwork of experiences, sights and sounds that we base our rides.
About the horses: Like us, our horses are an eclectic mix, we have Arabs, Thoroughbred, American Quarter and Paint horses, along with Arab/haflinger mixes. They are well-mannered and sure footed. The tack is a mixture of English and Western, in excellent condition. Our horses reflect the love and respect we show them.
